    just a mass of “cake-like” over soaked in poor quality rum,with a small amount(10 or so) of mini “choolate chips”..pass this up

    The Tortuga Caribbean Gold Bar Rum Cake is very good. For some reason, it tastes better than the same version in the round cake form. I have no clue why, but the rum taste is a little stronger and the cake is rather buttery. It actually reminds me of the Blackbeard Rum Cake in Cayman which isn’t available online anywhere outside of Cayman. The Blackbeard cake is better, but this Gold Bar Rum cake is very close and is flavored better than the round cake version made by Tortuga.

    This was the best tasting rum cake I have eaten in a very long time. It was moist and delicious by itself or with coffee or tea. It just needed to be larger;to soon and it was gone.

    We went our honeymoon 17 years ago in the Cayman Islands where we first tasted/became addicted to this moist buttery yummy rum cake. They even sell mini cakes in corner stores like a twinkie :) I actually ordered this cake from Cayman 17 years ago before it was availabe through Amazon.

    I have the recipe for this cake in the original, not a copy cat, but the actual real recipe. I only know this cake from making it and if this is half as good as that, I’d say grab it. It puts most rum cakes to shame save a rum baba which is yeast risen and I prefer this to a baba.

    My guy adores this cake (he had it there once while on a cruise) and I will make it for our holiday season this year as a surprise. This rum cake is famous and renowned in the world of rum cake lovers.

    Anybody calling this junk, obviously is not coherent IF one is a true rum cake lover. I’d HIGHLY recommend trying this before investing your time in making one. I have successfully made this with a good quality gold rum and with a spiced rum.
